Sony engaged Group X for several years to develop and stage their keynote presentations at COMDEX and CES. As part of the Discovery phase of the projects, Group X traveled to Japan to meet with Sony’s top executives. Once the key messages were determined, Group X moved through its Design phase and worked with Sony division executives to create a storyline that would balance product announcements, musical performances and demonstrations from Sony Pictures, Sony Music, Entertainment and Electronics as well as the chairman’s vision for the future.
In the year of Stuart Little, who better than the clever little mouse to introduce the leader of one of the world’s most imaginative corporations, Sony’s Chairman Nobuyuki Idei, to an audience of thousands at COMDEX. Working with Sony Picture’s animators, Group X repurposed clips from the movie Stuart Little to weave together a new story of the adventuresome mouse’s journey to Las Vegas. Using a Michael J. Fox voice impersonator and by creating five original seconds of COMDEX-specific animation, Group X produced a heart-warming introduction for Chairman Idei.
Group X has choreographed on-stage appearances by various entertainers including Drew Barrymore, Toby Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Angelique Kidjo, along with staging many product demonstrations. Group X’s expertise in producing large events was a critical success factor in the smooth handling of Hollywood celebrities’ special requirements and the flawless staging execution to accommodate the minimal transition time between keynote performances.
Group X received the highest form of praise for the Sony project by U.S. News and World Report saying, “Forget Bill Gates and other traditional COMDEX speakers, Sony’s Chairman Nobuyuki Idei stole the show.”
